Course Description:
'' The course of study is approximately 20% classroom training, and 80% hands-on practical training, including a two-week work placement with an employer. All content required to challenge the Provincial Block One Examination is covered throughout the program, and the exam is scheduled upon successful completion at the end of your training. Throughout the practical instruction of the program, all students will receive their hands-on skills on actual construction projects.
OUR GOAL:
To provide the training, knowledge and practical experience allowing students a good opportunity for employment in the bricklaying trade.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The student will be able to perform the following activities in a timely manner and to industry standard:
Trade Related Knowledge
Use and maintain hand tools
Use and maintain portable power tools
Use and maintain stationary power tools
Demonstrate use of anchors, ties and joint reinforcement
Demonstrate use of rigging procedures and scaffolding

Identify and use clay masonry
Identify and use concrete masonry
Occupational Skills
Motors, grouting and parging
Laying brick and block to line
Pointing and repairing existing masonry
Layout and erect batter boards and building lines
Wall Construction
Leads
Construction non load barding walls
Construction concrete block walls
Construct concrete block foundations
Construct composite walls
Construct cavity walls
Construct grouted reinforced walls
