'' This course provides programmers and system administrators the requisite information for building dynamic Web-based business solutions using Microsoft’s Active Server Pages. Students learn how to control the dialogue between the browser and server, build Web-based access to databases, create Web applications, and customize a visitor’s experience at a Web site. The course project, which requires the creation a custom online catalog, reinforces the development of these skills.

Learning Objectives
After completing this course, students will be able to:

Create and run ASP scripts within HTML pages
Display constants, variables, and results on a Web page
Read, store, and display user data input entered through HTML forms
Create and read browser cookies
Maintain information as a user moves from one HTML page to another
Display a banner that rotates through a series of images or text blocks
Share a Web-based application among multiple users
Connect a database to an ASP application to retrieve, display, update, and write data records
Prerequisites
Students must have a working knowledge of HTML, an understanding of basic database concepts, familiarity with a scripting language (preferably VBScript or JScript/JavaScript), and a basic understanding of IIS. DigitalThink’s HTML Fundamentals I, Introduction to ActiveX with VBScript, or Introduction to JavaScript, or equivalent knowledge and experience is recommended.

Windows NT Workstation running Peer Web Services OR
Windows 95 running Peer Web Services and Internet Explorer 4.01 (IE 4.01 is not required but you will need it to download Peer Web Services).
