'' To provide the necessary skills to enable a candidate to evaluate a haz mat situation and carry out the control measures needed to successfully end the haz mat incident as per NFPA 471 Recommended Practice for Responding to Hazardous Materials Incidents, and NFPA 472 Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Material Incidents.
Content
Analyzing the incident, collecting and interpreting hazard and response information, identifying container conditions involved in the incident, predicting the behavior of containers and contents, multiple material incidents, endangered areas, planning response, personal protection, decontamination, action plan development, implementing a response, performing control functions, and evaluation.
Certification
Certification for this course is through the Nova Scotia Professional Qualifications Board and all applications must be submitted to the Nova Scotia Firefighters School a month in advance of the course for the tests to be processed. ...''
