Course Description:

'' At senior levels in any organisation, assistants to managers must be able to handle a diverse range of responsibilities, projects and people. This course creates the opportunity to spend time away from work in order to self-evaluate, listen to the techniques others use to handle challenges, discuss theory and its practical applications, and plan how to become even more effective.

Part One of this course runs over two days with Part Two running for a single day one month later. Participants are asked to report to their manager on learning outcomes and complete a practical workplace project between Part One and Part Two. The outcomes achieved by each person form a significant part of the final course day.

Clarifying role accountabilities and required competencies
Analysing how each person uses authority and influence
Exploring communication as a strategic tool
Developing skills for managing other people’s use of our time
Enlarging our range of problem solving techniques
Identifying and practising skills relevant to handling difficult situations
Learning Outcomes

Define the challenges of your role and the behaviours required to meet those challenges
Use your communication skills in more targeted ways to achieve planned outcomes
Understand the concept of power, and more confidently exercise your own authority and influence
Identify aspects of managing time and productivity where you can be more assertive
Feel more confident to handle difficult people and situations and achieve effective outcomes
Take more of a leadership role in problem solving and approach workplace problems from an analytical viewpoint
