Course Description:
'' This program is a single unit of the Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Management Practice. It offers managers the opportunity to enhance their skills in a particular field without committing to a full post-graduate program. The practical nature of the content and learning gained through interaction with fellow students will ensure immediate benefits to performance in the workplace. This program outlines current models and approaches for effective managerial behaviour and leadership and explores the relationship between managerial roles, capabilities, self-development, and practice in organisational settings. Through an action-learning project, managers are provided with an opportunity to focus on a real management challenge as well as their own self-development needs.
Learning outcomes
Analyse the functional and disciplinary interdependencies at play in organisational contexts. Identify and evaluate the influences from the external environment that can impact on interdependencies in organisational contexts. Discuss the role of managerial capability and leadership for positive enterprise outcomes. Compare different models of managerial capability and leadership and analyse the contextual issues that may affect managerial effectiveness. Explain the strategic and behavioural aspects of managerial leadership in organisations. Apply assessment techniques and performance management tools to assess personal managerial capabilities and identify priorities for development. Use relevant specialist bodies of knowledge to frame the management development need and discuss alternative approaches to performance improvement. Structure an appropriate program of action-learning to address a development need. Evaluate personal learning and performance improvement.
