Course Description:
'' This programme is designed for health care professionals in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) industry to adequately assess and treat sick and injured patients at a Basic Life Support (BLS) level. The programme includes a 12-week didactic/lab study plus hospital, interhospital and ambulance practicum which are assessed and monitored according to national standards using the National Occupational Competencies (NOCP). A research programme is also delivered within this course.
The curriculum includes the following certification upon successful completion of the programme:
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate
Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certificate
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) certificate
Emergency Paediatric Care (EPC) certificate
NAPD Emergency Vehicle Operations certificate (weather and time permitting)
Symptom Relief Programme for EMT (Primary Care Paramedics)
12-1 Education (Includes: MAST/PASG, entonox administration, IV therapy, cardiac monitoring and D50W)
