'' The Master of Administration (Tourism) contains a substantial thesis component as well as prescribed coursework. It may be taken by graduates from other disciplines who have industry experience and can demonstrate research skills. The World Tourism Organisation has recognised JCU amongst the top 3 tourism education institutions in the Asia-Pacific, and among the top 12 in the world. Another ranking of leading tourism scholars published by the prestigious journal Tourism Management, places JCU in third place worldwide after Texas A & M University and the University of Surrey. The Cairns and Townsville campus cities are in the heart of Australia’s most popular tourist region, and offer many opportunities for ecotourism and general tourism study, work and research. JCU enjoys active research links with the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism. Examples of research interests include: tourist motivation; tourism planning; community impact; ecotourism and sustainable tourism development; tourism in marine environments; museums and visitor centres; tourist interpretation; market research and segmentation; the backpacker market; tourism marketing; tourist attraction management; tourism futures and technology; and Indigenous and cultural tourism.
