'' Effective nursing leadership is crucial in a health care industry where continuous change requires people of vision and commitment to meet the challenges of providing effective health care. Leadership is different from management in terms of the ability of leaders to have this vision of what an organisation is capable of becoming and to generate commitment from followers to achieve necessary changes and outcomes. Concepts within the subjects for the Master of Nursing Leadership are in the key knowledge areas that such leaders require. These include negotiation and dispute resolution, clinical governance, health care management and emotional intelligence. The course is aimed at nurses who are currently either in leadership positions (such as Directors of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing, Nurse Unit Managers and Clinical Nurse Consultants), or those they are succession managing to take on leadership roles in the future. These people have roles that include setting the strategic direction for services, human resource management and budget preparation and management, which are all geared toward their key responsibility of providing optimum patient care while maintaining patient safety.
