Course Description:
'' This course enables registered nurses to competently provide holistic care for the critically ill through the integration of advanced level knowledge, skills and humanistic values, within the context of an intensive care unit. Graduates will be capable of demonstrating advanced problem-solving and communication skills and be able to utilise these effectively to manage complex patient care situations, and to deliver care within a sound ethical and legal framework. They will also fulfil the role of patient advocate when appropriate and function at a competent level in accordance with the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN).
Applicants wishing to undertake this course must be currently employed a minimum of 0.6 in an intensive care unit. Some subjects have a 150-hour clinical practice requirement (see below). Clinical placement will be facilitated by the employing hospital.
