Course Description:
'' JCU’s teaching and research programs in aquaculture focus on tropical aquaculture. JCU’s proximity to the most productive aquaculture regions in Australia and the Asia-Pacific provide unique opportunities for study in this field. Research programs in nutrition and diet development, reproduction, larval development and growth regulation, and husbandry for fish, molluscs and crustaceans, present a diversity of research options.
Close collaboration with other disciplines at JCU gives postgraduate students a wide range of specialist programs, for example: aquatic animal diseases; pond dynamics; and genetics and molecular biology. Proximity to aquaculture farms for marine shrimps/prawns, freshwater crayfish, pearl oysters, barramundi and aquarium fish enable significant research collaborations with industry.
These coursework programs provide training in the principles and techniques of tropical aquaculture. Coursework programs are flexible, with electives available from other science disciplines. Students devise a study program to meet their professional needs, in consultation with the Course Coordinator. Research components may be included under special circumstances.
