'' In this course, students upgrade their skills and specialise in rapidly developing, high technology areas. Students can choose components of the course to suit their interests and speciality:
Biomedical Engineering: Specialists in this field are at the forefront of the rapidly expanding high-technology provision of health-care services. Areas of study include biomedical instrumentation and signal processing, hospital safety, computerised medical imaging, artificial organs and life support systems, as well as many other aspects of technology as applied to medicine. This particular specialisation requires the completion of a number of compulsory subjects, so as to satisfy the requirements for membership of the (Engineers Australia) College of Biomedical Engineering.
Electronic Systems Engineering: Intelligent control systems and entertainment systems are an ever-increasing part of our everyday lives. Areas of study include distributed control systems, embedded systems, fuzzy systems, neural nets, signal processing, image processing, advanced computer architecture and hardware, parallel computing and instrumentation.
Optical Engineering: This century will see opto-electronics and light (photons) replace electrons as principal transmission carriers. Photonics will also become a major technology for specialist signal processing and sensing applications. Areas of study include photonic networks and devices, optical fibre communication systems, advanced optoelectronic devices and circuits.
Telecommunication Engineering: This is now the fastest-growing industry sector in the world. Areas of study include signal processing for voice and data, networking, multimedia, integrated broadband systems (ISDN, ATM), mobile and personal communications, data superhighways, communications theory, communication systems simulation, digital receiver design and advanced radar systems.
