Course Description

The Post-graduate Certificate on Palliative and Home Care Nursing seeks to equip registered nurses with the knowledge, attitudes and skills that imrpove the quality of life of patients facing life-threatening illnessess and their significant others. This is achieved through the consideration of the whole person including physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care and attention to the prevention and relief of suffering.

Course Objectives

The objectives of the post-graduate courses are:

1. To improve knowledge and develop nursing skills that improve the quality of life of patients facing life-threatening illnesses and their families, in various settings (outpatient, inpatient and home care),
2. To develop communication skills for dealing with psychosocial and end of life issues,
3. To develop attitudes for dealing with ethical challenges and for providing spiritual care at the end of life.

Course Structure

The content of the post-graduate course comprises seven domains in order to achieve a basic level of theoretical and clinical competencies in palliative and home care nursing:
