Course Description:

'' This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute competently to human infertility clinical services. Theoretical and practical skills are presented in the broader context of the quality control procedures required to ensure maximum success in a clinical human IVF laboratory. The regulations that control these endeavours are also covered.The course consists of eight units, six of which involve lectures accompanied by tutorials, journal reviews, discussion groups and some site visits and case study analysis. The other two units consist of practical skills training for ART using mainly animal models. Studies cover statistics in embryology, mammalian embryology, in-vitro techniques for embryo production, embryo culture and cryo-preservation, fertilisation and micromanipulation, and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. This 12-month intensive course is equivalent to three semesters of study, therefore fees are calculated at 1 and a half time the average yearly fee. Students are only permitted a one-week mid-year break. In addition to attending lectures and self-directed study, students are required to undertake weekend and evening laboratory work to complete the course. Graduates usually find employment as clinical embryologists within IVF laboratories. ...''
