Training Course:

Foreign-trained Nurses

School/Trainer:

Omni College
Richmond, British Columbia, Canada

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online/Live | On-site/In-house | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' Statistics have shown that the majority of foreign-trained Registered Nurses (RN) who come to Canada and take the RN Exam have failed. Even though these nurses are qualified health care professionals in their own country, the reasons for failure in Canada have been predominantly the language/comprehension barrier, the difference in nursing standards, and difficulty in cultural adaptation. OMNI College responded to this situation by designing a program, the RN Licensure Preparation Program, which teaches the specific occupational language and cultural skills necessary to work effectively as a professional nurse in Canada.

The RN Licensure Preparation Program provides a comprehensive overview of the role of the Registered Nurse in Canada and covers each of the major concepts in nursing. These concepts are then applied while reviewing the clients in a variety of settings, including the areas of: Mental Health, Acute Care, Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Community Care. The Program also incorporates therapeutic techniques of communication in the nurse-patient relationship. Overall, you will gain a clear understanding of the professional responsibilities and standards of nursing practice in Canada.

The Program begins with 8 weeks of English for Nursing Purposes. This will equip you with the appropriate level of English so that you can better understand the technical terms relevant to nursing, and will maximize your learning experience with the Program. Another 8 weeks will follow focused more specifically on writing a relevant English proficiency test. This training will enable you to pass the English competency test required by the CRNBC (ex. TOEFL/TSE, IELTS, CELBAN, etc).

Once you have the appropriate level of English, the Program moves into specific training around Nursing. It is presented in a modular format, which can be presented in any sequence following the introductory module. This unique system will enable you to join in the Program within a few weeks, rather than having to wait for the next semester to begin.

During the last part of the Program, students undergo 6 and ½ weeks of an intensive supervised self-study and will write a simulation of the CRNE examination. This is a key component to the Program as it is designed to further strengthen your ability to achieve a passing grade on the CRNE, and ultimately becoming licensed as a Registered Nurse in Canada.
