Course Description:

'' Private Investigators and Security Agencies are two distinct categories of the security industry that are regulated by BC legislation. This diploma program was designed to produce qualified candidates for employment in both of these sectors. This training program is best suited to career-minded individuals whose ultimate goal is to become a licensed investigator in any BC location including remote areas where OFA First Aid Level 3 is a definite asset, or for those who aspire to enter the field of public law enforcement and want to gain relevant, practical experience prior to the application/selection process. The terminology of the OFA course will also be useful in the investigation of bodily injury claims.
Courses:

Career Orientation: 6 Hours
Students will be familiarized with career paths in the field of investigations, protective services, loss prevention and security, as well as growth, expansion and opportunities.

BST 1, 2: 64 Hours
This course satisfies the mandatory training requirements approved by Security Programs, Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. It is a Justice Institute of British Columbia course and a certificate is issued by them.

Principles of Loss Prevention: 35 Hours
This course explains the areas where losses occur as well as the prevention strategies, Powers of Arrest, suspect’s rights, charter and caution, reports and documentation and attending court and giving evidence.

Professionalism in Proprietary Security: 30 Hours
This course teaches participants the skills to gain compliance through strategic communications, personal safety and control tactics, physical control tactics, restraining tactics; including handcuffing and pressure point control, as well as documentation.

Court Procedures and Process Serving: 30 Hours
This course gives an overview of the Civil Law process in Canada, talks about serving of "Civil process", required documentation and affidavits, attending Court will "tie in" theory.

Fundamental Computer Skills: 50 Hours
This course covers Introduction to Windows XP, Microsoft Word 2002 and Excel 2002, as well Internet

Specialized Security: Casinos, Hotels and Events: 18 Hours
These components cover specialized areas of security and their requirements, including shopping centres, construction sites, hotels, hospitals Mentally Disordered Offenders and Special Events security.

Canadian Firearms Safety Course: 25 Hours
This course covers the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions, care, safety practices, storage, transportation and handling of firearms, as well as responsibilities of the owner/user.

OFA Level 3: 70 Hours
Course contents: Scene Assessment,. Primary, Secondary Survey, Vitals, History Taking, Soft Tissue Injuries, Burns Ligaments, Tendonw, Patient Packaging and Transport, Respiratory System, Airway, Head, Brain, Spinal, Strokes, Seizures, Pelvic an Abdominal Injuries, Upper and Lower Limb Fractures and Dislocations, etc.
Tuition: $695.00

Canadian Investigative Techniques: 145 Hours
This course provides the required certification for licensing for private investigation unrestricted. It covers ethics and professionalism of the private investigator, taking statements, interviewing techniques, memory and observation skills, research, skip tracing and background checks, surveillance and documentation, use of equipment and laws pertaining to private investigation.

Internet Research Techniques: 25 Hours
This course provides students with the techniques and sources of information to conduct research through public data bases. A listing of sources is provided and a practical application of the skills is included.

Electronic Surveillance & Counter-Measures: 15 Hours
This course teaches students about the signs of covert eavesdropping or bugging, potential targets and high threat business situations and personal situations and occupations. Also the risk factors of being bugged and the reasons to conduct regular bug sweeps.
