Training Course:Alaska Sea Kayaking 16 & 17 OnlySchool/Trainer:National Outdoor Leadership School Lander, WY, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Wildlife and water, mountain and forest. Since 1971, NOLS students have been exploring and experiencing the wilds of Alaska via sea kayak.
The Alaska Sea Kayaking course brings you to an amazing place and provides you with a wide variety of learning experiences. Youll learn things like getting along with your peers and grinning through a difficult day of rain-we call this expedition behavior -and choosing a coastal campsite that doesnt leave an impact on the land. Well teach you how to glide along the coastline in a sea kayak, even if youve never held a paddle. Youll hone your wilderness skills, have fun, and practice your leadership as you explore wild, wonderful Alaska. Soon, these things will become second nature.
Youll have a couple of options with this course. Lots of wildlife, views of booming tidewater glaciers, and opportunities for fishing and observing wildlife characterize Prince William Sound. On the other hand, the Southeast Alaska Archipelago is a land of forest and ocean, abundant in wildlife and fish. Youll be challenged by route finding and planning, as well as technical aspects like paddling and making big crossings. There will be time for practicing such things as rolling since youll have access to wet and dry suits.
