Course Description:
'' The Accounting Management program is a growing field of practice. Two reasons account for this growth. The first has to do with advances in the world of computers. The second reason is because of the increasing need of small- and medium-sized businesses to recruit Accounting Management graduates to perform such duties as payroll, accounts payables and receivables, book-keeping, general ledger reconciliations, and to some extent auditing of accounts.
Program Objectives
The objective of the Accounting Program is to assess a candidate’s competence in a range of Accounting skills. On the successful completion of the program, students should be able to demonstrate:
An understanding of the key accounting concepts
Application of skills to real work environments
An ability to think and work independently
An ability to find and sustain employment through the exercise of professional conduct and strong interpersonal skills at all times.
Further, graduates should be able to demonstrate skills necessary to perform accounting duties satisfactorily. These include intermediate cost and financial accounting; simple and advanced mathematical calculations; account journals and posting; verification of accounting records; preparation of payroll reports; present value calculation for liabilities; cash-basis bookkeeping; taxation - federal and provincial tax returns, etc. Both manual and computerized accounting concepts and applications are included.
