Course Description:

'' This is an intensive course which builds upon issues and topics covered in ACC217 (Principles of Accounting), and involves two group projects. Emphasis is on assets and revenues, and how they are a core component of a business financial stability. Topics to be examined include investments, capital assets and current assets. Particular emphasis is on revenue determination and the understanding of financial reporting, errors and omissions. The first group project involves students working in groups to carry out a project on the preparation of Financial Statements, showing a comparative Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Notes to the Financial Statement in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles. The project will be based on the CICA Handbook and ACCPAC G/L software. A much wider focus is on shareholders’ liabilities and assets, including current liabilities; long-term liabilities; income taxes; pension and associated obligations; cash flow statements and analysis. In particular, the second group project in this course involves the examination of specific sections of the CICA Handbook, and students will be required to work in groups, using their knowledge of the CICA Handbook section covered in the course to prepare and present a mock annual financial report of a corporation. ...''
