Course Description:
'' The Bass Institute of Technology was the first program of its kind designed specifically for the contemporary electric bassist, and over twenty-five years later BIT remains the leader in bass education. With a world-class teaching staff of professional, working bassists, BIT provides an environment where knowledge and experience meet to help you discover your unique style of playing. Learn the technical skills and gain the playing experience to handle any style from funk to rock, jazz, Latin, R&B and more. At BIT, you have performing opportunities unmatched by any bass school in the world, and the success of BIT¡¯s methods are proven by the number of BIT grads anchoring rhythm sections around the world.
BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM The BIT Bachelors Degree Program offers conservatory-style training in commercial music adapted to the needs of the contemporary electric bassist. Built around a strong foundation in bass playing techniques, stylistic performing experience and musicianship, the fully accredited Degree Program incorporates the broader, deeper elements of a college-level music education to produce versatile professional bassists. For details, please visit the Degree Program page.
PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The BIT Performance Program is designed to raise your technical skills, musicianship and playing experience to the level you need to excel at the music that inspires you. The one-year (four quarter) BIT Performance Program, created by players for players, surrounds you with the full range and depth of contemporary bass as you learn within MI¡¯s unique, hands-on, performance-intensive environment. A combination of core classes, live playing workshops, private lessons, open counseling and electives as well as seminars and clinics by world-famous bassists make BIT¡¯s Performance Program the number-one choice in contemporary bass education.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The BIT Professional Certificate Program is the ideal choice for more advanced players who want to polish their skills to a professional level. Designed for Performance Program grads (or the equivalent), this six-month (two quarter) program trains bassists in upper-level playing techniques, musicianship, performing experience and music industry career skills. BIT Professional Program grads acquire the practical knowledge, stylistic versatility and creative capacity to compete in the world of working professional bassists.
BIT ENCORE PROGRAM For bassists who have a limited amount of time or who wish to concentrate in a certain area without the requirements of a certificate program, the non-certificate Encore Program is ideal. After an initial evaluation, as a BIT Encore student you will receive personal guidance as you create your own mix of classes, concentrating on a single specialty or experimenting with a wide range of subjects as you see fit. BIT Encore students can also choose designated classes from other MI programs to create a customized, multi-instrument curriculum. Please visit the Encore Program page for more details.
BIT ELECTIVE CLASSES BIT elective classes are listed below. See the All-School Electives page for more choices, and designated electives from other MI programs are also available. Download or order a current Course Catalog for more information, and email or call an Admissions Representative for the most current information about the availability of specific electives (most electives are not scheduled every quarter, electives may be added, modified or cancelled at any time prior to the start of a quarter, and some require prerequisites).
