Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' In 1977, the Guitar Institute of Technology revolutionized contemporary music education with the first full-time program to offer hands-on professional training for the electric guitarist. Over twenty-five years later, with thousands of graduates worldwide, GIT remains the leader in guitar education with a unique system that combines technical, creative and professional development in a performance-based program. At GIT, you¡¯ll find the best instructors in the world augmented by seminars, concerts and lessons from some of the greatest guitarists in contemporary music. Network with other players, find your creative voice, and get the training you need to become the player youve always dreamed of being. GIT isn¡¯t just a guitar school; it¡¯s total immersion in the world of guitar.
BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM The GIT Bachelors Degree Program offers conservatory-style training in commercial music adapted to the needs of the contemporary electric guitarist. Built around a strong foundation in guitar playing techniques, stylistic performing experience and musicianship, the fully accredited Degree Program incorporates the broader, deeper elements of a college-level music education to produce versatile professional guitarists. For details, please visit the Degree Program page.
PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The GIT Performance Program is designed to raise your technical skills, musicianship and performing experience to a level that will allow you to play any style of music you choose. Created by players for players, the one-year (four quarter) GIT Performance Program teaches the complete spectrum of contemporary guitar styles within MI¡¯s unique, hands-on, performance-intensive environment. A combination of core classes, live playing workshops, private lessons, open counseling and electives as well as seminars and clinics by world-famous guitarists make GIT¡¯s Performance Program the number-one choice in contemporary guitar education.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM If your goal is to be a professional working guitarist, the GIT Professional Program is designed for you. This six-month (two quarter) program is designed for advanced guitarists (Performance Program grads or the equivalent) who want to give their playing professional polish and versatility. The Professional Program emphasizes the upper-level techniques, musicianship, performing experience and music industry career skills that guitarists need in order to compete as working players. At the same time, the Professional Program provides the ideal opportunity to spread your wings creatively, both expanding your musical range and going deeper into the heart of the playing that inspires you.
GIT ENCORE PROGRAM For guitarists who have a limited amount of time or who wish to concentrate in a certain area without the requirements of a certificate program, the non-certificate Encore Program is ideal. After an initial evaluation, as a GIT Encore student you will receive personal guidance as you create your own mix of classes, concentrating on a single specialty or experimenting with a wide range of subjects as you see fit. GIT Encore students can also choose designated classes from other MI programs to create a customized, multi-instrument curriculum. Please visit the Encore Program page for more details.
GIT ELECTIVE CLASSES Current GIT elective classes are listed below. See the All-School Electives page for more choices, and designated electives from other MI programs are also available. Download or order a current Course Catalog for more information, and email or call an Admissions Representative for the most current information about the availability of specific electives (most electives are not scheduled every quarter, electives may be added, modified or cancelled at any time prior to the start of a quarter, and some require prerequisites).
