Course Description:
'' The Percussion Institute of Technology, the world¡¯s leading and most imitated school of contemporary drumming, is not just a classroom experience¨Cits a total immersion in the world of drums. Learn a new groove or fill in the morning and use it on stage that same afternoon under the personal supervision of working professionals. Gain first-hand access to some of the greatest drummers in the world through frequent clinics and concerts. PIT is truly a contemporary drum school, evolving its vision and focus to meet the changing needs of drummers and the workplace. As a PIT student, in addition to learning the skills of the traditional drum kit, you are exposed to the techniques and nuances of electronic drumming, digital recording, and MIDI sequencing, as well as building and playing with loops both live and in the studio. The PIT style of learning gives you the real-world experience and confidence you need to meet the changing demands of the profession while also preserving your individual vision as a player.
BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM The PIT Bachelors Degree Program offers conservatory-style training in commercial music adapted to the needs of the contemporary drummer. Built around a strong foundation in drumming techniques, stylistic performing experience and musicianship, the fully accredited Degree Program incorporates the broader, deeper elements of a college-level music education to produce versatile professional drummers. For details, please visit the Degree Program page.
PERFORMANCE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The PIT Performance Program is designed to raise your technical skills, musicianship and performing experience to a level that will allow you to play any style of music you choose. Created by players for players, the one-year (four quarter) PIT Performance Program teaches the complete spectrum of contemporary drumming styles within MI¡¯s unique, hands-on, performance-intensive environment. A combination of core classes, live playing workshops, private lessons, open counseling and electives as well as seminars and clinics by world-famous drummers make PIT¡¯s Performance Program the number-one choice in contemporary drum education.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM If your goal is to be a professional working drummer, the PIT Professional Program is designed for you. This six-month (two quarter) program is designed for advanced drummers (Performance Program grads or the equivalent) who want to give their playing professional polish and versatility. The Professional Program emphasizes the upper-level techniques, musicianship, performing experience and music industry career skills that drummers need in order to compete as working players, including training in loops, sequencing and digital recording as it pertains to the contemporary drummer. At the same time, the Professional Program provides the ideal opportunity to spread your wings creatively, both expanding your musical range and going deeper into the heart of the playing that inspires you.
PIT ENCORE PROGRAM For drummers who have a limited amount of time or who wish to concentrate in a certain area without the requirements of a certificate program, the non-certificate Encore Program is ideal. After an initial evaluation, as a PIT Encore student you will receive personal guidance as you create your own mix of classes, concentrating on a single specialty or experimenting with a wide range of subjects as you see fit. PIT Encore students can also choose designated classes from other MI programs to create a customized, multi-instrument curriculum. Please visit the Encore Program page for more details.
