Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The Commercial Engineering Diploma is a supplementary course based around the live studio. Created as a natural progression from Diploma Module One, this course involves integrating audio software knowledge learnt on Module One with real life recording sessions. It is a sound engineers course concentrating on the skills required to record and produce a band. Diploma Module Two is designed for those seeking employment in a recording environment or wishing to set up their own commercial studio.
With an emphasis placed on project work under time restrictions, the itinerary reflects real-world working deadlines and is designed to improve the practical competence of the student while reinforcing the importance of time management within live recording and mixing sessions.
COURSE STRUCTURE»
Groups are limited to 6 people from Diploma Module One looking to broaden their horizons and attain the full compliment of studio skills.
This course commences after a short break, continuing on the same lecture day as your Module One programme. It is taught in Studio One using a digital automated desk and in Studio 2 on an analogue desk. As such you are prepped for analogue and digital studio environments.
Initially, the range of microphones most commonly used in the industry are taught utilising the live rooms, where you will learn the importance of isolating and optimising each signal in the recording process. Next, a range of other instruments are recorded as you shadow the tutor while he works with your first band.
Later in the Course you will be required to team up and work in pairs on a recording and production project with one of a number of bands on the Schools roster. Working this way allows the live room and the control room in the studio to be separately manned and best understood while you get used to working with a band.
Over the duration of the course the politics of the recording session, along with the specific roles of the artist, the engineer and the producer become clear.
To pass the Course each pair must successfully conduct a recording project, which is mixed and produced using the skills learnt on Module One. Up and coming bands currently playing the Manchester circuit are at your disposal and will be booked unless students prefer to bring in their own musicians.
Analogue and digital sound modules, plus instant access to a vast sample library are on hand to make sure any production style can be catered to. The usefulness of the Internet in further expanding the producers and artists resources will be shown. Often bands sessions go on to be released, giving many students their first step on the ladder with a credit as engineer / producer. ...''
