Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' During 2000 the College made a concerted effort to include environmental education into its curricula, aiming to reach primary, secondary and tertiary students. The vision was to provide a practical learning experience, which would supplement formal curricula and introduce the students to conservation issues. The College handled this in various ways, which included environmental education in the local communities and the implementation of university and school tours. The first university to make use of our university tour programme was the University of Queensland, Gatton, Australia. They spent 14 days at the College in 2000, and since this first successful event, the College has improved the programme annually, ensuring that it is a unique, fun-filled, practical experience, which at the same time imparts a remarkable amount of theoretical knowledge to participating students.
The College is perfectly placed to host educational field trips for university students and to provide a fun-filled practical learning experience that will change the way the students think about their world forever. We are located 12km from Kruger National Park¡¯s Orpen Gate. The College campus is situated in kempiana, which has no fence boundaries between the Kruger National Park on the East and Timbavati on the North, and the area is managed as a contractual park by Kruger National Park. Our training area provides a prefect venue for educational game walks and game drives.
As a training institution we have all the facilities necessary for any learning activity, and we are situated close to many places of interest, including Kruger National Park, Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; Kapama Cheetah and Lion Breeding Projects, Sapekoe tea estate and tourist farm, Brombyx silkworm farm, Nyani Shangaan tribal village and Blyde river canyon with its myriad of waterfalls, pools, rivers and gorges. We are also able to provide ¨C for an extra fee ¨C adventure sports like river rafting; quad bike trails; river tubing; canoeing; hot air ballooning; and hiking, to name but a few.We can tailor-make educational trips to meet your university¡¯s particular needs, and will also endeavor to meet your financial budgets as much as we can, because this project is important to us.
Since the inaugural university tour programme in 2000, attended by University of Queensland, the College has attracted a number of universities from overseas, including the Universities of Texas, Maine and Dartmouth. University of Queensland has made the College tour a part of their annual academic calendar and will be returning for the fourth time in 2003. In addition, the College annually hosts a group of teachers from America through the auspices of Teach US, who come to the College to gain practical experience, to encounter wildlife and interact with local communities so they can be better equipped to teach and guide their pupils. All teachers in the group each year are natural sciences teachers. They will also be returning to the College for the fourth time next year.
All of these institutions have a specific theme to their tours and tours are custom-made to suit their requirements, and itineraries and programmes are adjusted to their own specific requirements. Usually most of the educational tours at university level, come from various disciplines within the natural or social sciences departments.
