'' Tourism is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the world. It accounts for more than 13% of global consumer spending and the demand for tourism services will continue to grow at an incredible rate. The employment opportunities are tremendous-- over 400 different career opportunities in the tourism industry. Events such as Canadian 2010 Winter Olympics and World Expositions promote constant growth and need for more talented people in the industry of travel and tourism. In Greater Vancouver alone, over 85,000 new tourism positions will need to be filled by 2010. On a global level, an additional 150 million new tourism jobs will be created worldwide in the near future.
There are nearly 18,000 hospitality-related business establishments in the province of British Columbia, with 300-500 new businesses starting each year. 100,000 new skilled workers will need to fill in the sector by the time the Olympics come to Vancouver in 2010. In the next 4 years, at least 6 new hotels will be built in downtown Vancouver, creating 5,000 new job opportunities. Furthermore, with the aviation contract with Asian countries, signed by Air Canada, it is forecasted that the number of visitors to Vancouver will increase by 500,000 each year in the future decade. This brings about more exciting opportunities for the hospitality-related businesses. ...''
