Course Description:
'' A life skills counsellor is trained in a variety of skills and techniques and is qualified to provide basic counselling, assessment, and intervention to a variety of individuals in the areas of life responsibility identified in life skills theory.
Through a structured professional curriculum divided into academic and experiential components, students are exposed to a wide range of counselling theories and skills. This program also stresses the importance of each student’s personal development as a counsellor and provides opportunities for assessment of clinical abilities. Although students are exposed to other theories and techniques, the primary theoretical orientation is humanistic psychology.
A variety of learning methods are used, including lectures, discussion groups, small group work, one on one skills practice, and more. Classes are small, providing ample opportunities for individual feedback. All participants are carefully chosen to provide maximum exposure to different ages and cultures. The training is conducted in a "circle" to maximize input from participants. ...''
