'' While "Web Developer" is truly a broad job title that can be applied to the several careers involved in creating and maintaining Web sites. Web Developers must work on several assigned Web site projects and tackle them on schedule. If you like creating clever, cool things for everyone to see and use, then you would enjoy the life of a Web Developer. The starting salaries for these positions can vary immensely depending on your skill set, location, and the type of company.

To be successful in a Web development career, you need a solid knowledge base in Internet technologies and programming. While HTML is a requirement, you also need good knowledge of JavaScript, ASP, PHP, or Cold Fusion â€?preferably a combination of these. One of the most important characteristics of a Web Developer is willingness to stay on top of the latest technologies and to continue to build upon your current skill set. You don’t want to be left behind!

You will use all of these skills to create a wide range of Internet applications. The applications can be anything from a shopping cart for an online store or a Web site search tool to a sophisticated online catalog that keeps track of hundreds of company products. A Web Developer should know which technologies fit the specific needs of each project.

A Web Developer also needs to know how to work on a schedule with deadlines and how to estimate the duration of a project. Good team-working skills are also important because you are very rarely the only person involved in a project. Project Managers, Database Administrators, Programmers, and sometimes end-users take part in a Web project from start to finish.

The Web Design & Developer programme is a 40-week (25 hours per week) diploma course registered under the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Students gain hands-on experience while developing sophisticated, interactive websites. Learn to write and use your own customized code to produce powerful dynamic applications for the Internet including databases, e-commerce, and security.

Work experience/Internship is included in the program. Students work with the client using their knowledge and skills to develop a fully functioning “Live�website.

HTML
The standard document format used on the World Wide Web: HTML/XHTML commands define how the web pages look, including text styles, graphic art work and hyperlinks to other pages and documents on the Web. Learn to develop and use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

Adobe Photoshop CS3
Adobe Photoshop is the premier manipulation tool for both print and the Web. If you are planning on working with images in any way, this is the program for you.

Macromedia Flash CS3
Macromedia Flash is the standard for web animation. Flash allows you to create animations, text effects, insert movies and complex interactive web applications. It is a very powerful tool. Learn how to create rich, interactive experiences for the web, from banners and interactive menus to complete Web sites.

Macromedia Dreamweaver CS3
Advanced level course: Macromedia Dreamweaver is a Web development tool used by professionals around the world. Students will gain confidence as they learn how to use Dreamweaver to create and manage complex Web sites.

Web Programming
Learn advanced Web-based programming to create Web applications and develop Database-Driven Web sites. Students will design databases to meet the objectives of a Web site, apply Server side security and build administration Websites to manage database content. ASP/MS Access, PHP/MySQL, ColdFusion/MS Access
