Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The Intercept Program provides intervention services for families struggling with 14- to 17-year-olds beginning to demonstrate negative behaviors. Students learn the technical skills of canoeing and campcraft through the challenge of a 24- or 28-day canoeing expedition. During the expedition, the instructional team works individually and collectively with participants as they address such issues as personal limits, self-reliance, anger management and goal setting. Individual, group and peer counseling occurs throughout the experience using reality therapy as a basis.
While developing these skills, participants may also continue to earn school credit toward high school graduation through instruction by HIOBSĄ¯s certified teachers.
Over the last three days of the program, parents/guardians meet with the expedition team to learn about their childĄ¯s performance, participate in family mediation and contracting, as well as learn the necessary tools for working with their child upon their return home. The course concludes with a graduation ceremony attended by both the students and the parents/guardians.
