COURSE DESCRIPTION
Outward Bound Intercept conducts specialized 24-day multi-activity wilderness and urban expeditions to help young adults 18 to 20 years old transition their lives in more meaningful and positive directions. Intercept expeditions are designed for young adults struggling with their family, social groups, and/or education or work environment. Intercept expeditions foster personal growth and development by enabling participants to focus on the issues that make managing daily life difficult, such as low self-esteem, lack of motivation, negative decision-making, poor academic or job performance, and/or experimentation with drugs or alcohol.
The Intercept experience comprises two components. The first, depending on the course area, includes a 20-day wilderness expedition of canoeing and sea kayaking, or canoeing, backpacking and climbing. This component emphasizes team building, problem solving and campcraft skills. The second component consists of a 3-day urban expedition where participants perform service projects for communities in need, and learn hands-on how to make the most of career and academic resources and opportunities within a typical city.
