Course Description:

'' D.C. theory involves the principles of atomic theory such as the concepts of charge carriers, current flow, electromotive forces and the expending of energy. In this course, the major properties of a circuit such as resistance, inductance and capacitance will be identified and analyzed mathematically. In addition, the functional applications of DC circuits will be presented. At the end of this course, students will have a thorough understanding, through related theory and lab assignments, of direct current electrical circuits.

Topics include: relationship between voltage and current; introductory electron theory; Ohm’s Law; physical characteristics of resistance and different types of resistors; characteristics and usage of an ammeter, voltmeter and ohmmeter; energy and power in DC circuits; capacitors and capacitance, and their characteristics; series and parallel circuit analysis; troubleshooting DC circuits; time constant analysis for resistive and capacitive circuits; common terminology and symbols associated with electrical/electronic work; and awareness and understanding of safety precautions in an electrical environment.
