Course Description:
'' This course provides students with a thorough understanding of digital device circuitry and design. Students are provided with instruction into number systems, mathematical operations used to design and simplify digital circuitry, digital devices and circuits, and basic troubleshooting procedures.This will enable students to design basic digital systems, and to perform troubleshooting and repair of various digital circuits. Programmable logic devices such as Xilinx’s CPLDs are introduced in this course. Hardware description language (HDL) is also introduced.
Course topics include: analog and digital signals; number systems and codes: binary, HEX, Octal, BCD, Grey, ASCII and BCD; conversions between number systems; basic logic gates:AND, NAND, OR, NOR, XOR, inverter and buffer logic gates; principles of Boolean algebra; Karnaugh maps; combinational logic circuits; logic families; decoders, multiplexers and demultiplexers; flip-flops and latches; and arithmetic circuits. ...''
