Course Description:
'' This twenty-hour course is compliant with NFPA guidelines. The course will cover basic field calculations and basic pumping theory. Participants will learn how to confidently operate a fire pump and supply water to various hose lines and appliances.
Training will cover both pressurized and non-pressurized water sources. The course will use the IFSTA "Pumping Apparatus Driver/ Operator" curriculum as a guide.
Successful completion of the course will enable the student to complete the following:
Describe the basics of water characteristics and sources Describe the different types of nozzles and their flow rates Describe the need for calculating needed fire flow Calculate both theoretical and fire ground pump pressures Demonstrate proficiency in fire pump operation from water tank, pressure source and draft Describe the need for and demonstrate relay pumping Describe the need for water shuttle operations Describe the process for annual pump testing Specific Practical Skill Learning Outcomes:
Operation of a class A fire pump as per NFPA and Provincial requirements Demonstrate providing fire nozzle required flow rates for various hose lays Operate and set relief valve for system protection Manage water from tank, hydrant and static water supplies Demonstrate trouble shooting and care and maintenance for the fire pump ...''
