Training Course:Application Programming Using Visual Basic 6.0School/Trainer:JER Group Dawsonville, Georgia, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' In designing several applications using Visual Basic 6.0, this course will demonstrate the versatility of VB to help facilitate most projects related to Windows development, as well as, to help in personal programming endeavors.
In the course, focus will be geared on learning proper development of friendly GUI screens, programming techniques, optimization techniques, and some graphics programming (algorithms, some animation). Terms and definitions will be given in as simplest form as possible. A final project will be done to link activities accomplished in the previous weeks. This course will, hopefully, prepare participants for increased opportunities in the computer science realm! You may start the course at any time!!! Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
A. Create GUI screens that are user friendly.
B. Have a good grasp of what steps it takes to write VB applications (i.e. using controls, forms, classes, etc)
C. Understand and implement what is needed to write optimize and efficient code.
D. In time, to create applications that are capable of being distributed on a professional level to corporations, as well as, small businesses.
E. Use what they know to help them in learning other ※visual§ and Object-Oriented languages such Visual C++ and Visual J++, which are considered very high level languages that give you even more control, than VB, to create highly sophisticated applications, databases, and web pages to name a few. Assessment: Student*s performance will be based on:
1. Ability of the student to demonstrate a grasp of VB concepts and terminology through programming assignments.
2. Performing satisfactorily on the tests given, as well as, the programming assignments. Week 1: Week #1 每 Establish Goals and Objectives of class and become familiar with Visual Basic programming environment
In the first week, some terms and definitions will be given. Also, a first programming assignment will be given at the end of the week to assess, early, where students are in their learning process.
A homework assignment schedule, class rules, grading criteria, testing, and mode of submitting programs will be given as well. Student questions/answers will be sent via email.
Week 2: Week #2 每 Learning more about Visual Basic Forms and Controls
This week we will learn more about common controls used in VB applications, how to manipulate the properties of these controls at design time and at run-time. Also, we will learn about the functions (sometimes called methods) and events associated with the controls being discussed.
A second project will be assigned and due during Week 4 (exact date TBA)
Week 3: Week #3 每 Visual Basic Forms and Controls Continued
This week we will continue covering controls and their properties, methods, and events.
First Test will be given this week! (exact date TBA)
Week 4: Week #4 每 Using Variables, Arrays, Types, Procedures and Function
In this week, we*ll look at how to create variables, arrays, types, arrays of types, procedures, and function Week 5: Week #5 每 Creating multiple GUI screens and linking them
This week we will learn about modules and how to use them to help coordinate the linkage of multiple screens.
The third programming assignment will be assigned this week and due in Week 6 (exact date TBA) Week 6: Week #6 每 Creating Classes and their Uses
In this week, we will learn how to create classes and use them in our program for optimization, automation, and increased program organization.
The fourth programming assignment will be assigned and due in Week 7 The second test to be given this week (exact date TBA). Week 7: Week #7 每 Graphics in Visual Basic Part 1
We will begin looking at graphic commands in VB. Also we will have a discussion and comparison of speed of Visual Basic ability to do graphics vs. C++ environment. A ※lite§ discussion will be done on graphic algorithms just to give some background information.
The FINAL programming assignment will be assigned, but will not be due until Week 10 (exact date TBA)
Week 8: Week #8 每 Graphics in Visual Basic Part 2
This week is a continuation of learning the graphics commands, but using the API to improve optimization of the code and speed of the graphics. We will be using classes to implement some techniques in graphics programming. Week 9: Week #9 每 Final Test
Final Test will be given this week (exact date TBA). Week 10: Week #10 每 Extra Topic: Advance Class modeling (if class shows interest)
In this week, we will become familiar with how VB handles polymorphism and inheritance when creating classes in VB. Some comparisons will be made to C++ mode of handling polymorphism and inheritance.
If class is uninterested in this extra knowledge then the extra section will not be taught. However, the final programming project is still due this week. ...''
