Course Description:
'' The first unit explains the concept of Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). It covers the features and functions of JDBC and the differences between JDBC and ODBC. You will learn about the models supported by JDBC and the different types of JDBC drivers. You will also learn about the different interfaces in the java.sql package. Finally, you will be able to write the code for adding, updating, and deleting records from a database.
The second unit explains native methods and the procedure for invoking a native method. It explains how to write the native method implementations in C or C++. The unit also describes the Java Native Interface (JNI) and its methods. You will learn to load and link a native method. Finally, you will learn about the JNI types, data structures, and the Invocation API feature of JNI that allows you to load, initialize, and invoke the Java Virtual Machine.
The third unit explains the tools and techniques used to debug Java applications. The unit describes how to use the Java Debugger API that is provided in the sun.tools.debug package for debugging the applications. You will also learn to start a debugger and write code to debug Java applications. Outcomes: Students will be able to describe in detail JDBC, its functions and the differences between JDBC and ODBC, as well as know the interfaces in the sql package. Students will be able to write code for adding and deleting records from a database. Students will understand the Java Native Interface (JNI). Students will know hot to use the tools used to debug Java applications, start a debugger and write code to debug Java applications.
