Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Information Systems that perform well are based on well-designed databases. Learn how PowerDesigner 9.0 can be used as a tool during the data analysis, data modeling, and database design processes. User PowerDesigner to create a conceptual data model (CDM) with entities, attributes, and relationships. Learn to target a DBMS, generate and enhance a physical data model (PDM), and then generate a database creation script for database tables, indexes, views, triggers, and Stored Procedures. Use the reverse engineering features of PowerDesigner to create physical, conceptual, and object-oriented models from an existing database. Discover how PowerDesigner supports iterative modeling by using company and merge model features as well as by synchronizing physical data models with corresponding databases and visa versa. Review the MetaWorks repository for storing and sharing enterprise modes. Course Objectives : Upon completion of this course, you will be able to: Create and manage conceptual data models Generate and manage physical data models Generate database creation scripts Produce implementation details, such as triggers, procedures and views Reverse engineer an existing database to create physical, conceptual, and object-oriented models Compare and merge models Synchronize physical data models with databases Manage large models with multiple designers using MetaWorks Create effective reports on your PowerDesigner models Course Topics : Introduction to data modeling with PowerDesigner, using the PowerDesigner modeling environment, creating and managing a CDM, defining business rules, creating data items, entities, and entity attributes, creating and defining relationships (cardinality, dependency, roles, existence), defining and using domains and inheritance, generating a PDM, transforming CDM objects to PDM objects, customizing the PDM, creating views, alternate keys, and indexes, creating the database script, protecting data through triggers, procedures, views and business rules, reverse engineering databases, model management techniques, PDM synchronization, working with packages and diagrams, creating reports.
