'' Get hands-on experience with the new features of Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) 12.5 and Interim Release 12.5.0.1. Learn what the new features are and how to use them, study new and modified commands and troubleshooting tips, and gain valuable insight on fine-tuning considerations and upgrade issues.
Course Objectives :
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
Describe the installation process and upgrade considerations for each new feature
Reconfigure ASE without a reboot
Describe the behavior of new limits in Adaptive Server 12.5 including column and row lengths
Control user access at the row level
Migrate data from a 2K page Adaptive Server to a 12.5.0.1 Adaptive Server with a different page size
Use a new command to easily resize a Sybase device
Grant a non-SA user permission to run select dbcc commands
Replicate data from one Adaptive Server to another
Describe how to use Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) as an alternative to the interfaces file
Use new options to the quiesce database command to work with specialized storage subsystems
Perform database dumps using various levels of compression
Create a single view performing a union across multiple tables
Convert data from ISO1 to Unichar
Describe the new Component Integration Services (CIS) enhancements

Installing and upgrading to ASE 12.5, migrating data between different page-size Adaptive Servers, using new limits in ASE including column and row lengths, using Unichar datatypes, reconfiguring ASE dynamically, controlling access at the row level, resizing ASE dynamically, controlling access at the row level, resizing a Sybase device using a new command, allowing users to run select dbcc commands, performing backups with different compression levels, component integration services (CIS) enhancements, using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to connect to ASE as an alternative to the interfaces file, using quiesce database enhancements to work with specialized storage subsystems, and creating views with a union.
