Training Course:Advanced Performance: Monitoring Tables FacilitySchool/Trainer:Sybase, Inc. Atlanta, Chicago, Concord, Bethesda, Dallas, Irvine, New York, Washington etc., U.S.
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Available server monitoring tools typically generate reports that are server wide: you cant easily focus on a particular database, process, or table; and monitoring tools can be expensive. You can build performance enhancement tools for your Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.5.3 and later servers, that allow you to focus on the specifics of your particular environment - database, process, object. Youll be able to to pinpoint factors adversely affecting performance, such as: obsolete indexes, "expensive" queries, trace unexpected error conditions in stored procedures, and document cache specific "Hit Ratios".
Learn to quickly design a low cost, effective, self-monitoring facility based on the newly available Monitoring Tables. This course also discusses a number of "procs" used to generate useful performance and productivity reports from utilization data recorded in the Monitoring Tables. Sample monitoring stored procedures are included.
Existing server monitoring tools, such as Adaptive Server Enterprise Monitor typically require significant resources to develop, support/administer, and depend on a skill set that is very different to the traditional DBA/T-SQL expertise. Alternative Monitoring Systems, based on the new Monitoring Tables functionality, provide a high performance, extensible application infrastructure, with a low overhead. Importantly, the level of information delivered is comparable to that of Monitor Server. However, there are no extra servers or components to administer - and the Monitoring facility is always available. At the same time, Monitoring Facility development is easily accomplished, using the familiar DBA/T-SQL skill set. This results in shorter learning time; while the monitoring data itself is easier to collect, store and query than with other environments.
