Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This class focuses on intermediate topics in Dreamweaver MX 2004 with the goal of enabling students to take full advantage of the power and flexibility of the application. You will be introduced to the advanced tools used to manage complex web sites, including Macromedias facilities for coding CSS, JavaScript, and DHTML.
Sample of Class Work
CSS Styles
An exciting companion of HTML, Cascading Style Sheets give the web designer more control over fonts, colors, spacing, and textual effects. For example, this small text was created with cascading style sheets. After a short introduction to CSS in raw HTML, you will learn about Dreamweavers CSS Styles tools. We will create internal and external stylesheets, redefine the styles of existing HTML tags and create new classes of styles to be applied to portions of text.
Layers
Layers in HTML refer to positioned boxes on the screen. A box or layer can be defined to create a column or to stack on top of another layer. You will use layers for positioning and page layout. You will also work with visibility of layers - modifying the visibility of content on the screen based upon a users interaction. Finally, we will address potential problems when employing layers and techniques for avoiding these pitfalls.
Behaviors
"Behaviors" is Macromedias term for JavaScript functions associated with elements of a web page. For example, the following link has a behavior associated with it : when the user clicks on it, a pop-up box is launched. We will discuss the types of events that can trigger behaviors to take effect - for example, when the mouse moves over an item, when a link is clicked, or when a page is loaded. You will learn how to associate Dreamweavers pre-written JavaScript functions with these events to accomplish advanced image rollovers and writing to text layers. You will :
show once hidden content based on a user event (show/hide layers) learn how to create multiple rollover effects how to launch a new browser window of a designated size alert the user with a pop-up message change the text on the screen when the user mouses over an image Templates
Larger sites often involve both content entry and web design: webmasters produce a template of a page, and then other members of the organization populate instances of that page with data. This entails the risk that the content/data entry staff will accidentally change the layout of the page. To guard against this, Dreamweaver implemented the concept of "templates", web pages where only certain designated portions are allowed to be edited. We will address how to create and populate such templates.
Navigation Bars and Pop-Up Menus
Increasingly users require multiple means of navigating the website. A navigation bar may be augmented by adding a Pop-Up Menu to each navigation bar item, providing direct access to that subcategory. Alternatively, you may wish to provide a user direct access to the more frequently visited pages regardless of where the content is categorized. The use of a "shortcuts" or Jump Menu can facilitate such quick navigation. In class, we will use Dreamweavers objects and behaviors to create an example of each.
