Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The Foundation Degree in Performance and Theatre Arts is an exciting new programme, designed to locate the study and practice of theatre and performance within twentieth and twenty-first century practice. The Foundation Degree in Performance and Theatre Arts will be offered in three SURF Colleges, with common core modules forming the basis of the Foundation Degree. Specialist modules will differ from college to college and include Performance Workshop, Devising for Theatre, Community Theatre, Site Specific Theatre and Physical Theatre. Through specific work-based learning modules, students will be encouraged to see the relationship between their own work and existing performance practice, realised through small-scale touring and/or work placement opportunities. There is also a key emphasis on the transferable skills gained from this kind of study and students will be encouraged to consider how these might meet the needs of the Creative Industries or other related sectors.
What will I do on the course?
Level 1 In the first year core modules will focus upon twentieth century performance, practitioners and playwrights. Practical work will focus upon the development of performance skills with particular emphasis towards understanding theatre and performance as a multi-disciplinary art-form. Practical classes will be assessed either through presentation and/or production events. Work-based learning modules will encourage students to explore, in a theoretical sense, employment opportunities and possibilities in the Creative Industries Sectors.
Level 2 In the second year core modules will focus upon late twentieth and twenty-first century advances in theatre and performance and students will be expected to undertake a mini-research project to support their learning. Practical modules will provide an opportunity for students to further develop experience and understanding of performance. Modules in work-based learning will require students to participate in a small scale tour and/or to undertake work placement. ...''
