Training Course:Youth Sea KayakingSchool/Trainer:Cal Adventures Berkeley, CA, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Learn to use the same style sit-inside style kayak that adults use to navigate San Francisco Bay, our coastal shores, and to explore the world!
The Introduction to Sea Kayaking class follows a five day schedule that introduces students to the basics of sea kayaking including paddling techniques, equipment, safety, and rescues. Students will also have time to paddle around the South Sailing Basin in front of our UCAC Marina and play games like tag, soccer and relay races while in the boats.
The Intermediate Sea Kayaking class has a similar schedule to the beginning class but differs in that the students are introduced to the stronger afternoon winds of the San Francisco Bay. Those conditions are more typical of coastal kayaking and will help the student improve his or her skills by making it more challenging.
Participants must be between 10 and 16 years old and must be able to swim.
Cal Adventures provides wetsuits, paddling jackets, life jackets, and all kayaking equipment. The class is usually taught in closed cockpit, single person boats. Students may also use double, sit-on-top kayaks for a day. Boats do not have rudders.
Bring a bathing suit, towel, sunglasses, sunscreen, shoes that can get wet, and a change of dry clothes for after class. (A more detailed list is on the confirmation letter).
Students should bring a water bottle and a light lunch or snack from Monday thru Thursday. Early in the week we will plan a potluck lunch for Friday. Everyone will be assigned an item to bring to share with the group.
