Recognition Many universities offer advanced standing of one or two first year units for those students who have successfully attained the Certificate IV/Diploma qualification.
Assessment & Reporting Candidates studying examination courses are assessed both informally and formally, and on a continuous basis throughout the period of their Academic English Study. Weekly exam practice is built into the program. Candidates practice exams in the various skill areas required and are given feedback on progress, as well as marks according to the IELTS or TOEFL criteria. Candidates receive an Interim Report and an End of Course Report showing achievement on a competency based assessment system as used in General English.
Assessment is continuous and based on class activities. Students undertake a wide variety of tasks and are expected to demonstrate competency against a range of assessment criteria which adequately reflect the skills required for successful tertiary study.
All students who successfully satisfy the assessment criteria in all 9 core units will be awarded a certificate (AQF III/IV). In addition, students who continue on with their undergraduate studies at Notre Dame may be awarded up to 6 credit points which is equivalent to 2 first year university units. This will exempt them from a core Communications Unit such as CO105 and also from a choice of some elective subjects.
