'' This comprehensive two-day programme aims to equip you with the confidence to not only understand the basic supplier company financial statements but to interpret and use the information to maximum negotiating effect. It will do this firstly, by giving you, the participant, a significant amount of knowledge and understanding and secondly, by removing the mystique from financial statements to enable the key negotiation issues to be extracted. It is intended to have a direct impact on the organisations performance by increasing the buyers ability to negotiate improved terms from the supplier. Day 1 * Understand the layout of Profit & Lost A/Cs and balance sheets and the terminology used in their makeup. * Be aware of some common creative accounting techniques * Interpret the annual trends in a set of accounts by utilising basic interpreatation techniques such as the relevance of key ratios * Assess a suppliers weak areas in their accounts and the relevance of other non-financial information * Understand the shortfalls of ratios for group accounts and the pitfalls of un-audited accounts * Understand the relevance of absolute figures as well as ratios and interpret these with reference to the solvency of the supplier and their capacity to deal Day 2 * Understand the relationship of spend/complexity mapping to the interpretation of accounting information * Establish trends for negotiation benefits e.g. growth problems, margin, payment terms and pricing, investment patterns, value of company business to supplier. Supplier dependency issues. * Use the principle of marginal costing for contribution analysis on a change in company business with a supplier. Effect of reduction or increase in business and how to use this for negotiation benefit. Supplier rationalisation and development financial issues * Use the principle of marginal costing for key decisions such as make vs. buy, accepting special orders and product line decisions * Interpret a cash flow forecast and understand the difference between cash and profit from a suppliers perspective and the effects on contract negotiation. The link between this the suppliers ability to raise working capital finance would be established * Introduce the concept of discounted cash flow in capital equipment purchasing and how it is used to maximise returns in a long term supply agreement ...''
