'' The impact that effective purchasing can have upon the profitability of commercial organisations, or the efficiency of those in the public sector has increasingly been recognised. However, the activities and processes within purchasing must be carefully managed if maximum benefit is to be obtained for the organisation. This will require a strategic perspective of the direction in which purchasing should be developed. In turn this will require managers to appreciate concepts and phillosophies, but who can translate these into practical realities. Leadership and team building skills will also be required but these must be built upon a foundation of sound purchasing management knowledge. Programme
