'' This course examines the development and operation of a wide range of digital subscriber line (DSL) technologies. The course begins with a review of the issues associated with using bandwidth-restricted local loops for long holding time Internet sessions. All the DSL technologies are introduced, with a more explicit discussion of asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), including consideration of G.lite/UADSL and related remote splitter and premises issues, especially security. The various DSLAM issues are discussed in full, including DLC issues. VDSL is introduced as DSL optimized for fiber feeders and video. The important position of HDSL and HDSL2 in the current deployment of 1.5 and 2 Mbps services is addressed. The course includes a look at the future of DSL in terms of services, products, and deployment scenarios and concludes with a consideration of local loop prequalification and turn-up verification testing.
