'' Interpreting engineering drawings can be complex when composite materials are used. This three-day course provides instruction in reading and interpreting technical drawings used in manufacturing, production and repair of advanced composite products. This course is designed for those responsible for designing, fabricating, repairing and inspecting advanced composite structures.
In this class, the students are exposed to a myriad of different drawing styles and techniques used to communicate advanced composite panel construction. This class focuses on the similarities of composite drawing standards used throughout the industry.
Students will learn the basics of drawing layout and where to look in the drawing for pertinent information related to panel lay-up and/or assembly information, including identification of related upper level and sub-component drawings.
This course places much emphasis on reading and associating drawing notes and callouts. In addition, students will learn to cross-reference assembly dash numbers to serial number effectivity where applicable.
Interpretation of ply definition diagrams and the ply table is essential to reading composite drawings. Students receive an overview of basic orthographic projection principles and cross sectioning, which leads into a class discussion about how ply definition diagrams are used to detail specific ply lay-up schemes at different locations around the part.
In addition to topic lectures, students will be provided actual composite drawings and participate in ¡°hands-on¡± drawing interpretation exercises that are designed to progressively enhance their print reading abilities.
