'' The objective of the Phlebotomist program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in clinics, drug treatment centers, freestanding surgical centers, and hospital areas. Students will be trained in the highly technical area of intravenous blood withdrawal. General medical and legal knowledge is provided in addition to an introduction to business skills. Classroom instruction is reinforced in the Colleges clinical laboratory and further refined through a hospital or laboratory externship. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a Lower Division Certificate. Graduates of this program may perform intravenous blood withdrawals. Clerical duties include using computers for keying in patient data using correct medical terminology, understanding chain-of- custody forms and drug screening procedures, using aseptic techniques and Standard Precautions, handling biohazard waste properly, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The length of the Phlebotomist program is four quarters culminating in 42 quarter credit hours. This program is represented to lead to multiple job opportunities and is not meant to lead to any particular outcome, including that specified in the program title. Although the College will assist the student with job placement, finding a job is the ultimate responsibility of the student. The College does not guarantee that any student will be placed. ...''
