'' The McIntosh College Professional Photography Associate of Science Degree program is designed to help students develop the necessary skills to enter into the exciting arena of professional photography. Today’s photographer is truly both an artist and a technician, blending the traditional skills of lighting and composition with industry-current advances in digital imaging.

This professional digital photography training is designed to help students understand the digital darkroom process and be exposed to the techniques being utilized to create some of today’s most innovative images. Professional Photography program students will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience with industry-current equipment in both studio and on-location settings.

Professional Photography program graduates can explore careers in Commercial or Fine Art Photography, Studio or Portrait Photography, magazine or journalistic photography or in a variety of digital imaging capacities in business and design firms. Get the picture?

Professional Photography Program Educational Objectives

Work with traditional and digital photographic equipment
Choose the best format, digital or traditional, for the assignment
Evaluate proper exposure using various metering techniques
Evaluate lighting variations and lighting quality using traditional and digital film backs.
Integrate images into various software applications
Calibrate electronic equipment to standardized targets
Create electronic Portable Document Format (PDF) files
Use ambient and artificial lighting to create flattering poses for portraits in formal and candid environments
Apply lighting principles in commercial photographs
Compare and select the best type of and quality of lighting for photographing people, objects, and landscapes
Assemble studio equipment to meet the needs of the photographic environment
Deal with clients and other professionals with tact and diplomacy
Create a professional portfolio
