'' The Dental Hygiene program prepares students to meet the needs of a regulated profession. The program articulates the dental hygiene process model of care, comprising preparation, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. With current standards and practices, the Dental Hygienists have become important members of the dental health initiatives in Canada. At the Canadian Business College ¨C Faculty of Dentistry, students will learn about the profession of dental hygiene, including dental prevention modalities. (Note: All students are responsible for providing their own clients for the clinical component of the program.) An important part of the program is observing jurisprudence and recognizing the potential hazards of dental products and techniques. Overall commitment to preserving dental health through education and preventative counselling will render the graduate worthy of practicing in Canada. OBJECTIVE: The Canadian Business College offers the course as the field of dental hygiene presents a wide variety of opportunities. In Canada, registered dental hygienists (RDHs) may pursue careers in both clinical and community practice. In clinical practice, dental hygienists most often work with general practitioner dentists or specialty practice dentists. They are educated to work directly with patients to prevent and treat gum disease and tooth decay, and are trained to: • Assess tooth and gum health • Prepare individualized dental hygiene treatment plans • Refer patients to a dentist for dental treatment As part of their clinical regime, they not only look after the cosmetic appearance of teeth and gums, but also perform complex services like scaling and root planning to treat gum infections and diseases. In community practice, the work of dental hygienists ranges from working with individuals on a one-to-one basis to dealing with entire communities They may perform health surveys for a community and work with other health professionals to design a health program for that community. Dental Hygienist work independently, interdependently and collaboratively with health professionals in a variety of practice settings, including private dental practices, community clinics, public health programs, institutions and long term care facilities. Entrance Requirements - Academic 1) Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent Specific requirements include: Grade 12 English (ENG4U) minimum score 60% OR Grade 12 (ENG4C) minimum score 70% Grade 12 Biology (SBI3U) minimum score 60% OR Grade 11 Biology (SB13C) minimum score 70% Grade 12 Chemistry is also highly recommended OR O¡¯ Level in English, Math, Biology & Chemistry with a minimum grade of ¡°C¡± OR Internationally Trained Dentistry Degree, OR Canadian Dental Assisting Diploma with a current letter from a dentist confirming that the candidate has observed dental office and dental hygiene procedures for a minimum of two days. 2) Together with Entrance Aptitude Test (spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension, mathematics, logic and dental knowledge) http://www.cbstraining.com/aptitude/aptitude.HTM Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not ensure admission into the program. Other Requirements Immunization for Hepatitis A, B, & C by a physician - Medical doctors certification of current health condition. Criminal Record Reference Check. Letter from a Dentist confirming the candidate is in good oral health. Application Procedure Students should submit official copies of all transcripts, including high school and all other records of academic e.g. Dental Assistant Diploma with transcripts. Applicants are also encouraged to attend a FREE Information Seminar - RSVP 416 925-9929. Qualified applicants that have the minimum academic requirements are required to take a FREE entrance examination. For students applying with international educational transcripts (other then Canada) we require that your documents be assessed by the World Education Service. Please refer to their web site www.wes.org/ca for those students where English is a second Language Toefl Examination score 230 computer or 500 written are required. Financial Requirements Non-refundable deposit of $500 (CAD) upon registration from qualified applicants. 25% of Tuition required prior to commencement Book/material Costs to be paid prior to commencement 12 post dated monthly cheques required to pay balance of fees. Budget for additional costs you will be required to pay external sources; for those students that qualify; Current certification in CPR; First Aid and Basic Rescuer in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation ¨C This is only required if you are not CPR Certified. (This course can be taken from Canadian Business College at a cost of $125 whilst studying). Dental Tools (Yours to keep) Additional Dental material(If required) & lab fees, gloves, masks, misc... Exam(s) by National Dental Hygiene Certification Board (NDHCB) (Budget approximately $1500 for additional costs listed above to be paid to external sources) In Ontario the Private Career Colleges Act regulates registered Career Colleges, Dental Hygiene programs are regulated together with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario. This program is presently not Accredited by The Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC). To determine exam eligibility with the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board visit http://www.ndhcb.ca/en/exam1.php?menu=ee The Dental Hygiene Faculty enrolment committee at Canadian Business College can not guarantee acceptance and only qualified students will be considered for entrance in this program. ...''
