'' The Medical Radiography program offers potential candidates the opportunity to complete an Associates of Applied Science degree in Medical Radiography. This program serves as a means to address the current and future shortage of Radiologic Technologists, R.T. (R) in Virginia and nationally to meet society¡¯s need for increased numbers of highly skilled and knowledgeable Radiographer professionals.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Prepare graduates for entry-level practice work in an ethical, legal, safe, and effective environment.
Provide a learning environment that recognizes individual differences and promotes caring behavior in the health care community.
Promote critical thinking skills to effectively address patient care problems and to adapt to the rapidly changing challenges in healthcare.
Provide graduates with strong educational foundations for lifelong personal and professional growth.
Prepare graduates to take the national and state licensure examination.
YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS
In 18 months a student can earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Radiography. This program has applied for accreditation by the JRCERT (Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology), however, such accreditation has not presently been awarded. Graduates of a JRCERT accredited program qualify to take the national exam of the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Radiography. Graduates also qualify for licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by the Virginia Board of Medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES
Only after the program receives JRCERT accreditation, will the graduates qualify to sit for the national exam of the ARRT. Graduates who pass the national exam of the ARRT in Radiography are permitted to use the professional certification initials R.T. (R) following their names. These indicate that they are Registered Technologists in Radiography of the ARRT.
