'' An Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Ohio ¡ª Cincinnati is the first step toward a career in graphic design. Students will begin by exploring design theories and principles. Further study will emphasize the application of theory in current design problems. Students will experiment in different media including print, electronic and three dimensions. A final portfolio that demonstrates the graduate¡¯s strengths in design will complete the Graphic Design degree.
The Graphic Design degree provides an understanding of advertising, corporate identity, package design, publishing and Web site design. While some graphic designers choose to specialize in one area, others prefer a fast paced career in an agency where clients request projects that cross over to different media. In the field of publishing, art directors and graphic designers work with editors and journalists to design and produce magazines, books and newspapers. Designers create a vast range of visual communications, including corporate identity programs, concept designs, print production, exhibit materials, direct mail, brochures and multimedia presentations.
Students graduate with the training and portfolio required for an entry-level position in visual communications such as graphic designer, multimedia designer, package designer, junior art director or production artist.
