'' The mission of the Interior Design program is to prepare students to function as trained professionals able to conceive and develop viable, creative solutions within current market realities. By meeting such educational goals, students should develop an attitude of flexibility and desire for life-¬long learning necessary to meet the changing demands of the interior design profession. The goal of the Interior Design program is to produce creative and conscientious design professionals that will contribute to the success of his/her client, employer and his/her industry. To accomplish this goal, a multilevel instructional approach is utilized including sequenced courses in three distinct sections: Art Foundations, Major Concentration and General Education.
Major concentration courses are specific to Interior Design and cultivate a students competencies and talents to produce a skilled interior designer. The program works, in sequence, to develop and foster: the utilization of the design process to create a unique, comprehensive design solution appropriate to a clients needs, building codes and accessibility guidelines; the understanding of design elements and principles for residential and commercial design; the development of manual and computer based skills; the ability to communicate and document through verbal, visual and written means; and preparation for industry licensing and certification examinations.
The following are the specific competencies that a graduate of the Interior Design program is expected to achieve: 1. Understanding of the Design Process 2. Problem Solving appropriate to the client¡¯s needs 3. Application of building codes and accessibility guidelines 4. Understanding of the Elements and Principles of Interior Design 5. Ability to communicate through verbal, visual and written means 6. Command of manual and computer based skills 7. Preparation for industry licensing and certification examinations
Interior Design is both an art and science whose purpose is to enhance the quality of life and facilitate human activity. The study of this discipline is best served by an approach, which combines the critical thinking skills and broad, cultural knowledge inherent in the liberal arts with the creative and technical skills necessary for interior design practice. The Interior Design program at The Art Institute of Ohio ¡ª Cincinnati provides students with specialized courses that emphasize the technical development, aesthetics, problem solving and collaborative skills necessary to become employed in commercial and residential interior design.
Graduates of the Interior Design program are prepared to seek various entry-level positions in this innovative, interesting and rewarding field.
